Scripture: Mark 9:33-37 If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all (v35).
Observe If anyone wants to be first… well, too bad. You need to not want it to get it. You’ve got to be more concerned with others than with yourself. That’s love, right? Being more concerned with the welfare of another than with your own, certainly your own reputation. God still values it, but it can be so hard to find it within myself.
Application It’s a part of my personal mission statement: ‘to know God by serving others’. It’s so hard to do (or, at least, to do meaningfully). I need to keep that front and centre or it doesn’t happen at all. If I want to know God part of the process is to serve other. In other words, if I want to know God, I will be the ‘servant of all’.
Life application for today Serve my family.
Prayer Lord, I am a servant.
