Hanging out with sinners

Scripture:  Mark 2:16    I have not come to call the righteous but sinners.

Observe   That’s what Jesus came to do: save the sinners.  That’s who he came to be with. Most Christians – like me – spend our time with the ‘righteous’. But if we truly are the body of Christ, we should reflect his priorities.

Applications   For a non-social person, what does it look like for me to hang out with ‘sinners’? I have a hard enough time hanging out with the righteous! Who are the sinners in my world, and

What excuse do I have for hanging out with them? If I start with who I am and in the circumstances I find myself in, then I will be the ‘fragrance of Christ’ wherever I go and toward all I encounter: the fellow shoppers in Costco, the clerk at whatever appointment I have, people who come to my door and try to sell me something, the workers who come to my house to fix something, whatever…

Life application for today    Who are those whom I will encounter today? The renovator of my house…

Prayer    Lord, help me to be more aware of the people around me and follow your leading.
